Curriculum Intent
At The Fordway Centre, we aim to provide every pupil with a personalised curriculum that prepares them for their next steps in education, whether that is a return to mainstream school or a move to specialist provision. Support is offered pastorally, academically and therapeutically, with a rich programme of half-termly curriculum days and trips designed to broaden experiences, build confidence and strengthen social and emotional skills.
Our curriculum is built around breaking down the barriers that prevent pupils from learning. By identifying these challenges, we create engaging and empowering learning opportunities that equip children with the essential skills they need for today and the future.
The Fordway curriculum is designed to:
- recognise and build on children’s prior learning,
- provide positive, first-hand experiences,
- develop interpersonal skills,
- build resilience,
- and nurture healthy, happy, motivated learners who are eager to succeed.
Every child is recognised as a unique individual, and we celebrate the diversity of our community. Learning is underpinned by the teaching of key skills, knowledge, concepts and values, with a clear vision of preparing pupils for life beyond the PRU. Enrichment opportunities are woven throughout the curriculum to spark curiosity, promote investigation, and foster a love of discovery. We believe childhood should be a joyful, enquiring time, where curiosity is limitless and every new experience adds to a thirst for knowledge.
We are committed to fostering positive attitudes to learning and strengthening relationships so that children develop the values and skills needed to take responsibility for their own progress.
Pupils leave The Fordway Centre with a strong sense of belonging, the confidence to make decisions, the ability to self-reflect and self-regulate, and the resilience to succeed. Most importantly, they leave as lifelong learners, ready for the opportunities and challenges ahead.
