Ash Class - Upper KS2

  • Ash Class - Upper KS2

In Ash class (Upper KS2), we use a creative approach to deliver a well-balanced curriculum. We have a strong focus on each child’s well-being and belonging to ensure they feel they have a place in our class and within the Fordway Centre. This helps to foster a positive perspective on learning and provides them with the tools they need to succeed within the education sector.

The children start each day with their key working group, where they discuss their targets for the week, how the previous day was, a movement activity, and have breakfast. This supports them to get settled into their day and sets them up ready for a positive day of learning.

We use the children’s interests and a termly topic to engage them throughout all the core learning subjects. We have a big focus on PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) and each day consists of numeracy and literacy lessons to build children’s confidence with Mathematics and English. We cover the core learning points in each area to help close any gaps in learning and provide a foundation of knowledge and skills necessary for their further education journey.

We use the Zones of Regulation daily as a tool for children to express how they are feeling healthily. This is discussed with them at the beginning of each day and encouraged throughout. We have a strong reward structure to promote participation in learning and appropriate behaviours, which have a strong positive impact on the children. Movement breaks and sensory opportunities are also accessible for the children when needing support with their emotions and/or concentration.
